Bath Day

I thought I would take advantage of some of the last
hot days of the season
and give my sweeties a bath.

 They were less than thrilled.......

So after they were nice and shiney and clean this is what
they did just to show their appreciation,

 Some thanks I get!!

Have a great day,

Early signs of Fall....

                                          It's coming!!
Finally....ahhhh....my favorite season.  Fall! I know it isn't even labor day yet but I'm ready. Unfortunately, Fall also comes with the reminder of everything I wanted to get done this summer but didn't.  UGH!  We won't think about that.....It's gonna give me a serious hot flash if I do.

Thought I would share some of my early Fall observations with you....

We are getting towards the end of the tomatoes in the garden.

Leaves just beginning to change....see...they're trying....

There's even a few falling.

Here in Indiana we have lots of corn.  Corn everywhere!
I gotta say, I love the corn!!
Especially when it starts to dry and turn golden.
Seriously...I love it!!

You can't drive too far without seeing fields like this.
Don't you just love it??!!!

How about some fiery sunsets....

More corn... ha ha.!!

Yes, the days are getting shorter, the nights cooler,
the air crisper....aaahhhhh.....
sigh.....
I love it!!
God is good!!!
Happy almost Fall!!

And on that happy note, I bid you goodnight!
Sweet Autumn dreams!

Laundry Day

How can something so simple as hanging laundry on the line
give one SO much pleasure?

Can you smell it?

It doesn't matter what it is........

Laundry is just better when you can hang it outside!!!

And that's the truth!!
.....sigh.....

Rose Scented Geranium Jelly

We have had such a hot and dry summer.  Luckily my herbs and flowers seem to have made it through.  Most of them anyway...I won't mention the ones I lost due to the weeds taking over....ahhem...
So I thought I would try to preserve some of these gorgeous flavors.

Rose Scented Geranium Jelly.....
summer in a jar........or..the end of summer in a jar........
I just made a batch of this delicious jelly the other night.  I love the way it looks almost as much as I love the taste.

I cut out some burlap squares, put rubber bands around the top to anchor the burlap, covered the rubber bands with a piece of sage green raffia then cut out a tag from scrap booking card stock.  Pretty cute huh?  You can find them in my Etsy shop https://www.etsy.com/listing/81315123/herb-jelly-rose-scented-geranium
Just in case you want to try to make some for yourself....here is the recipe

Rose Scented Geranium Jelly
This is a two day process so be sure to allow yourself sufficient time.....

 INGREDIENTS

4 CUPS ORGANIC APPLE JUICE
20 OR SO SCENTED GERANIUM LEAVES-WASHED AND DRIED
5 CUPS SUGAR
3 TABLESPOONS FRESH LEMON JUICE
3 OUNCES LIQUID PECTIN

STEP 1
Combine apple juice and geranium leaves in saucepan and simmer on a LOW boil for five minutes.  Remove pan from heat and let cool to room temperature. (At this point I use a potato masher to gently smash the leaves to release more flavor.)
Drain leaves from apple juice.
Cover and store in the fridge for 24 hours.  This step can actually be done several days ahead and stored in the refrigerator.

STEP 2
Prepare and sterilize your lids and jars.  We don't want anybody getting Salmonella.......

1.. Combine the juice mixture, sugar, and lemon juice in 8 qt. pan.  Boil over high heat for 5 minutes stirring frequently.
2..Add the pectin.  Return the mixture to a boil, timing it for 1 minute exactly.
3..Pour the jelly into clean jars, leaving 1/4 inch of head space.
4..Process in a boiling water bath canner for 5 minutes.  (Time starts after water has returned to a boil)
5..Let the jars cool, check for seals, label and store in a dark cool place for a few days so the flavors can marry.

                                                        Enjoy!

A starting point.....

I have been waiting so long to start this blog......I'm not sure what I was waiting for....
How about if I introduce myself through some pictures............
I'm hoping to chronical my life living in a 100 year old farmhouse, missing my 3 grown children who come home between jobs and college, caring for my horses and St. Bernards, growing and using as many herbs and vegetables as I can and making my house a home.  I love to travel and hunt for vintage finds for my Etsy shop. I love just living in the country and I try to never take for granted how truly blessed I am to be here in the first place!!

This is Lucy and Maggie.  They do this alot...gaze longingly out the front door....looking for something to bark at.  They find it quite often.

Duece
This is my guy!! Our rescued ex race horse from Lexington Kentucky. A race horse who never won a race.  I think he has quite the life.....eats, sleeps, poops and plays with his girlfriend....
Samba
She too is an ex race horse who actually won a race or two.  Unfortunately for her owner, she became lame and could no longer race.  That was our GOOD fortune.....She is huge, sweet and definately wears the pants in the relationship.  She too has quite the life....eating, sleeping, pooping and bossing poor Duece around.
This is where I
LIVE
I love my house and I love making my house a home! I hope to share my homemaking skills....well...I don't know if I'd call them skills...but I sure have FUN!!
This is a part of my HERB GARDEN before it became so HOT, HOT, HOT!!!
I'm sorry to say it's not quite so pretty now. We had an un usually early summer and an exceptionally hot one too.  Weeds really like my flower and Herb beds....someday...when I don't have to work outside of my home....I'll have the garden beds that I start out having every year....before the weeds move in.....sigh...someday...

I love wearing Vintage Aprons like these!! If you've never worn one, well, just let me say you are really missing out!!! I feel like whenever I cook something wearing one of these aprons...well, it just tastes better and it usually comes out the way it should!!!

Yep!!! I love me some aprons!!!

See you soon,
