Raspberry Cobbler

I seem to have the best ideas while I'm driving and I can't stop to write them down.

I have been neglectful once again to this blog.

I guess I need to make the commitment and commit!

Easier said than done!!

It is raspberry season!!

I picked as many black raspberries as I could find around our property.  They were just perfect and I actually got to them before the birds.

Look at these!

I picked about 5 cups.  (It would have been 6 if I hadn't been eating as I picked.)

I seriously could have eaten all 5 or 6 cups myself but I was trying to be nice and  share with my family.

So I made my favorite dessert recipe!  It is seriously my go- to dessert recipe.
Very easy and fast.  My kind of recipe!

Raspberry Cobbler

This can be made with blueberries too!

2 cups red or black raspberries
1/2 C sugar
1 stick butter
1 C flour
1 C sugar
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 C milk

Combine 2 cups of red or black raspberries with 1/2 cup of sugar and cook on low heat until sugar is dissolved. Set aside to cool.

Melt the butter in a 8"x 8" pan.
I just put mine in the microwave in the pan I will be using.
Combine the flour, baking powder and 1 cup of sugar and whisk together.
Add the milk and mix well.
Drop in dollops on top of the butter.
Pour heated berries on top of dough.
Pop it in a 350 degree oven for about 30-35 minutes or until it starts to turn brown on the edges.

Top with ice cream and enjoy!!!!!

If you can't wait until the cobbler is done......you can have a little pre-dessert.  It seems like a lot but you will just be doing your part to make sure nothing gets wasted.....

I LOVE RASPBERRIES!!!
When I make this, it is gone, gone, gone with no leftovers!!

Thanks for stopping by!

See ya soon,

It is supposed to be in the 40s next week.

Hallelujah!!!

It sure seems like we've had a long winter but in reality it's only February....so I know we are not out of the woods yet.

The roof that we just put on last fall is

LEAKING!!!!

I can't believe it.

But the the puddles on the counter and on the floor are proof.  They call it ice build up or ice dam or ice something.

I won't tell you what I call it.

Yep, that's me, just like I know what I'm doing.

Stupid Roof!

Anyways.......I am really feeling Spring Fever!

It's hard to imagine Spring is in 3 days when we still have a foot of snow on the ground and 3 foot piles outside our backdoor.....sigh....

So, while trying to maintain my patience, I thought I would share a little flower box planter I made last summer out of some old drawers I stole from an Estate Sale for fifty cents a piece.

Not very pretty.
But nothing a little can of spray paint can't fix.

I didn't bother using a Primer before I painted because I wasn't planning on this little project lasting more than a season.

I actually had 2 of them so I stacked them on top of each other like this

This was taken a few weeks later.
Not too shabby eh?

Happy Spring!

Ninety-nine cents

Look what I found at the grocery store for ninety-nine cents!

Pretty little carnations for just .99

Unbelievable!

I put these in the kitchen in a stoneware pitcher.

 They just made my day!

I put these in the living room.

One day soon the sun will warm the earth
and melt the snow and we will have our very own flowers again.

And the mosquitoes will come
.....ugh.....

So for now I am going to sit on my newly made window seat
and drink coffee.

That will last about 3 minutes before I feel guilty for sitting and doing nothing.

Actually I wanted to make some pillows for said window seat today.

Here is my inspiration

Some quilt scraps and old chenille bedspreads.

Hmmmm

Cousin Palooza

Today my sister and I had planned to go on a short road trip to visit our cousins about two hours away.

We have been planning and anticipating and texting with the cousins since Christmas.

You know, something to break up the Winter Blues
A little something that has affectionately been christened "Cousin Palooza"
The problem is ....we woke up to this..
with a forecast of an additional 3-9 inches of snow.
Don't get me wrong, I do love the snow, but we have had more than our share lately and even I, a snow lover, am dangerously close to getting my fill.

You see we don't just want to get together.  We need to get together.  We need to talk and laugh and be the people we can only be when we are together..... with family.

 Come on snow....STOP!!!

It appears we won't be going to Cousin Palooza today....the snow has changed to rain.....
 and now back to snow.....
Not exactly favorable road conditions.
By the time we would be driving back home tonight, the temperature will have dropped and the roads will be a sheet of ice.
 Sigh.....
I guess I should clean or something
Nope, don't' feel like it.
Maybe I'll just sit right here, on my bed
and work on this blog.
Still trying to navigate and figuring out how to link and, and, stuff that I don't even know that I don't know!

Yes...

I did make those pillows on my bed by the way.  I used an old bedspread I picked up at an Estate sale.

They came out pretty cute if I do say so....

See ya later,

Happy New Year

I know............
I haven't been blogging in a while....time just seems to go so fast!!!
Quite a few things have changed this year.  All three of my children have moved back home for one reason or another.

Mostly because they all have college loans..ugh...
I mean ugh about the loans, not about their moves back home!

I am LOVING it!!

And I know it won't last forever so I am really trying to enjoy their company and bask in the glory that is
Family!!

That being said, we were snowed in for the past few days and man, it actually felt good to go to work this morning.

I, of course, got over that feeling as soon as I stepped inside the door to work this morning...sigh...
and I wished I was back here

Taking pictures of my daughter riding on our
snow covered road......

Or just taking pictures........

This too was included during our snowdays.
That's a story for another post.

I would take the snow any day over this

MUD!!!
YUCK!!!

That will come soon enough!

But for now it's time to cozy up, cook something and enjoy all that is winter.

Everyone needs an adventure day

I am a slacker!!
I know, I know......
I have not blogged for a few months.  Yes, months!  My how time flies!!
I am seriously going to try to do better.

Try
being the operative word!

Thanksgiving and Christmas came and went and now we are creeping towards Valentines Day.

Yesterday was Saturday.

After a few necessary chores which included picking up another round bale of hay to keep the horses happy...... I wanted to take a little trip.

Are my lights on?? What the heck??

How is this for a hay feeder?
I just leave the bale in "Big Red" and let em have at it.
 Red neck? Maybe....
White trash?
More than likely....

Anyway, since everyone else in my house had plans for the day, I decided to have my own little adventure.
Sun is out, roads are clear,
Head 'em up and move 'em out.

I first went to an Estate Sale where I hit the jackpot finding lots of
Vintage Postcards

Not exactly sure what I will do with them but aren't they awesome????

After that I started heading east to the country to this little area called Rentown which really isn't a town at all but just a shop operated by the Amish.

Northern Indiana is home to many Amish families.

I never get tired of seeing them.

When I was little I used to wish I could be Amish but then I grew up and realized I love clothes too much to ever be Amish.
And electricity....

Back to Rentown,

it's a store filled with everything from bulk spices to knives to baked goods to bird seed.

I bought some bulk gluten free flour, some bay leaves, cheese, and butter.

More country roads

Then I was off to the brick streets of Leesburg to visit an antique shop called Alley Cats.

It lived up to it's reputation.

This is what it looks like inside

and this is what I bought.

Love these thermoses!

Found the smallest blue bowl to go with my set of Pyrex nesting bowls.
(I'm still looking for the red one)

The nice ladies at Alley Cats gave me the name of another Antique shop just a few miles away in a town called Warsaw.

They had some cool stuff but nothing I was looking for.  I'm looking for the red nesting bowl to complete my set of Pyrex bowls and a ironstone pitcher.

I found neither.

The guy at Indiana Antique Company actually suggested I try EBay for my red bowl!!!!
Are you kidding me??
That is just plain cheating.
I'm not above cheating... but part of the fun is in the hunt!!
Anyone can go on Ebay and get a bowl......I want to find it on the bottom of a dusty shelf
overlooked and forgotten....
waiting for me.

Then it was time to head home.

You gotta love the corn fields in Winter.

You can see for miles

literally....

I had so much fun and wondered why I didn't do this more often.

Yes, I could have cleaned my house or done a number of other projects that need doing

but I didn't

and I loved it.!!!!

The Girls....

I thought I would introduce you to my girls.......
my Rhrode Island Red heads.

They are pretty much my organic garbage disposal.

The more scraps they get.....

the more eggs I get.....

There's nothing like fresh eggs!!!

My chicken coop backs up to my horse pasture.  Sooooo whenever I mess with my chicks,
my horses have to stick their noses in our business....
literally...

They always have to know what's going on....who knows......
maybe they like eggs too.

On second thought.....

Maybe not!!
